I think it’s for the same reason that people stage houses in neutral colors when they sell, and why mass-produced beers are boring and flavorless. Because they figure their way to the biggest possible customer base is to be as inoffensive as possible.

Someone pointed out that, for a married couple, it’s tough to buy a brightly-colored car because while most people like bright colors in general , they often will have different responses to any specific color.

Perhaps that is why so many marriage end badly. People should be required to shop cars together as part of marriage prep.

I love this color.
Hyuandai knocked it out the park with the new So nata and Elantra. Also gave the cars more than one color I'd actually want (Blue and Orange).

It is a cycle of self-selection. People are concerned that uncommon colors would limit the price on the used car market, so they stick with boring colors. Car makers see that buyers buy boring colors, so they stop offering bold colors.
Wraps or plasti-dips
become an option for people who want personalized colors but don’t want to lose $$$ when they sell them.
That said some car models come with bright colors. Usually
they are niche models that are expensive.

both of the rentals I’ve had were blaaaack. When we went to Colorado I tried to upgrade to an Orange Fiat 500x, but my wife didn’t want to.
